Village of Brown Deer, WI
Project Description
Like many growing communities, the Village of Brown Deer, WI was using paper files, maps, and CAD files. Responding to Digger’s Hotline requests was very time consuming. Technicians had to report to the office in order to view the paper maps, which required at least 1 to 2 hours of overtime pay, depending on the day of the week.
Now, after-hours emergency hotline tickets are reviewed remotely using the AssetAlly application, often without needing a technician to come into the office. Ruekert & Mielke, Inc. (R/M) was hosting the Village’s old GIS mapping application and introduced the Village to AssetAlly. The decision to switch was easy. R/M met with Village staff to address their immediate needs:
Mapping the sanitary sewer
Storm sewer
Water main utilities
Adding “data entry” tools for sanitary sewer
The Village of Brown Deer received funding through the Urban Forestry Grant to assist with the development of the tree inventory, lidar canopy analysis, and Emerald Ash Borer treatment reporting applications. The project was estimated to cost $40,000 and the funding program reimbursed the Village the full $40,000. The improvements were integrated into the Village site.
Our team built the Village site and their staff received training on the new features. AssetAlly enabled the Village to have one common database for system mapping. Having everything in one central database reduced staff time and the frustrations of looking for paper maps and seeking information from different departments, which allowed staff to work “smarter”, not “harder”.
Residents are now able to view property information from the Village’s website along with utility and tree information when previously this wasn’t possible. Simple questions such as “when is my garbage collected?” are answered right from AssetAlly.
