KENNETH R. WARD, P.E.
Vice President, Kenosha Branch Office Manager
Why did you decide to become an engineer?
There were no jobs in architecture! I wanted to be an architect when I was young, but the job market was poor, so I decided to go for civil engineering instead, and I don’t regret it. I really appreciate the engineer’s focus on logic and functionality.
How long have you been with R/M?
About 36 years.
What is the best part of your job?
There are very few things I don’t like about my job. I do love the design aspect; getting the chance to bring new things to our clients. I also really love teaching and mentoring our young engineers.
What do you think differentiates R/M from other firms?
The personal investment our staff has in our clients and in the work. Our project managers genuinely want what’s best for our clients. For example, if I’m driving down the street and notice something’s wrong, let’s say there’s water coming out of the ground, I’ll contact the municipality and let them know there’s a problem, whether or not we’re working for them at the time. It’s not about looking for money, it’s about looking out for our communities.
If you could go back in time and give your 18-year-old self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Listen more. Don’t jump to conclusions. Don’t decide you know the answer to something right away.
What are you up to when you’re not at work?
Coaching or refereeing my youth soccer teams 5 or 6 days a week. Otherwise, I enjoy running and spending time with my family and our three dogs.
What is your favorite food right now?
We’re eating a lot of salads at home right now, and I’m enjoying those. Salad with some grilled salmon.
What do you want your clients to know about You and your team?
I’m going to have their best interest in mind when I make any decision or suggestion. Our goal is always to help people as much as possible.
